The Joseon Tongsinsa were diplomatic envoys who played a pivotal role in restoring Korea-Japan relations severed after the Imjin War, ushering in over 200 years of peace. The massive delegations, comprising hundreds of people, traveled by land and sea to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Their processions were treated like grand cultural festivals by the Japanese populace. This mission served as a crucial conduit for disseminating advanced Joseon culture, including Confucianism, medicine, art, and music, to Japan.
