Even during the Joseon Dynasty, marked by a strict Confucian patriarchal system, women expressed their unique voices through literature and art. Shin Saimdang achieved immense artistic success with her poetry and Chochungdo (paintings of insects and plants), while Heo Nanseolheon gained fame even in China for her visionary, genius poetic sensibility. Despite strict social norms, Joseon women sublimated the era’s limitations into art, giving birth to unique literary genres such as Gyubang Gasa (women's quarters poetry).
